The five laptop repairs we do most — and what to expect
Cracked or faulty screen. The most common job on the bench. We keep panels for all major brands in stock, so most screens are replaced the same day — often within a couple of hours. A flickering screen or faint display isn't always the panel itself; sometimes it's the cable or backlight, which is cheaper — the free diagnosis tells you which before you spend anything.
Battery that won't hold charge. If your laptop dies in minutes or only runs on the mains, the battery has usually reached the end of its life. We fit genuine-spec replacements, and where the battery is stocked it's typically done while you wait. If the fault turns out to be the charging circuit rather than the battery, we'll say so — no point selling you a battery that won't fix it.
Worn or unresponsive keyboard. Missing keys, dead rows or ghost typing. We replace full keyboards — including backlit models — rather than gluing individual keys back on, because single-key fixes rarely last.
Liquid damage. Speed matters here: switch the laptop off, unplug it, and don't try to power it on to "check if it still works" — that's when the real damage happens. We clean spills at board level and give an honest assessment of what's saveable before you commit to anything.
Slow performance. Often the best-value repair of all. An SSD upgrade and a memory boost can make a five-year-old laptop feel new for a fraction of replacement cost — and we clone your existing Windows installation across, so nothing needs setting up again.
If a repair genuinely isn't worth it, we'll tell you straight — and our used laptops for sale are refurbished on the same bench, tested, wiped and warrantied, with your data transferred across the same day.
Not worth repairing? You still keep your data.
Where a laptop can't be repaired, or the repair isn't worth what the machine is worth, we'll transfer your files, photos and settings onto a replacement device so nothing is lost in the changeover. Bring the old machine in and we'll tell you honestly which way makes more sense — our used laptops for sale are tested, wiped and warrantied on the same bench.
We can collect your device, repair it at our Nottingham workshop and return it to your door. Get in touch for a collection quote: 0115 855 9414.
Repair first — it usually beats replacing
Most laptop faults — cracked screens, dead batteries, slow drives, liquid spills — cost a fraction of a new machine to put right. We diagnose free of charge, quote a fixed price before any work starts, and back every repair with a 90-day parts and labour warranty, so keeping your laptop is the easy choice.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a laptop screen repair take?
Most laptop screens are replaced the same day — often within a couple of hours if the panel is in stock, which it usually is. We hold screens for all major brands, so there's rarely a wait for parts. We'll confirm the timescale when we quote.
Do you repair MacBooks?
Yes — we repair all MacBook models including Air and Pro: screens, batteries, keyboards, liquid damage and upgrades. Common parts are kept in stock and we can source most others quickly, so MacBook turnaround is usually just as fast as any other laptop.
Is my data safe during repair?
Yes. Your data stays on your machine and is never accessed beyond what the repair requires. If a repair carries any risk to the drive, we'll tell you first and can take a verified backup before work starts, so nothing is ever put at risk without your say-so.
How much does laptop repair cost?
Laptop repairs start from £30 including VAT. The diagnosis is always free, and you get a fixed quote before any work begins — so you know the exact cost up front, and if we can't fix it you pay nothing.
What if it can't be fixed?
Then you pay nothing — that's our no fix, no fee promise. We'll explain what's wrong, transfer your data where the drive is healthy, and if you need a replacement we can move everything to one of our tested refurbished laptops the same day.
My laptop had a drink spilled on it — what should I do?
Switch it off, unplug the charger and don't turn it back on — powering up a wet laptop is what causes most of the damage. Bring it to us as soon as you can; the sooner a spill is cleaned at board level, the better the odds. We'll assess it free and tell you honestly what's saveable.
Can you make my slow laptop faster?
In most cases, yes — dramatically. The usual culprit is an ageing hard drive: swapping it for an SSD, often with a memory upgrade, transforms responsiveness for far less than a new machine. We clone your existing Windows setup across, so you get your own laptop back, just faster.
Do you replace laptop keyboards?
Yes — full keyboard replacements for all major brands, including backlit keyboards. Worn keys, dead rows and liquid-damaged keyboards are everyday jobs; most are done the same day when the part is in stock.
Not worth repairing?
If the numbers don't stack up, we'll tell you straight — and every machine in our shop is refurbished on the same bench, tested, wiped and warrantied.
