Graphics card repair & upgrades
The graphics card is where most gaming problems start and where most upgrades pay off, so it gets its own section.
When a card misbehaves — artifacting, driver crashes, fans screaming, black screens under load — the honest first step is diagnosis, because the fix ranges from free to a new card. Overheating from dried thermal paste and dust is common and cheap to fix: a strip-down, repaste and clean often brings a 'dying' card back to normal temperatures. Genuine VRAM or core failure usually isn't economical to board-repair; we'll say so plainly and quote a tested replacement instead of selling you false hope.
When it's upgrade time, the card is only half the decision. We check the rest of the build fits it: whether your power supply has the headroom (see below), whether the case can cool it, whether it physically fits, and whether your CPU will bottleneck it in the games you actually play. Then we fit it, update drivers cleanly, and test under real load before you collect.

RAM, NVMe and storage upgrades
RAM is the cheapest meaningful upgrade for a stuttering system — 16GB is today's sensible floor for gaming, and we'll check speeds and XMP profiles so you get what you paid for, not just what's fitted. NVMe drives transform load times and general responsiveness compared with SATA SSDs and are usually a same-day fit, including cloning your existing Windows installation so nothing needs reinstalling.
Cooling: air, AIO and everything between
Air coolers are simple, quiet enough and nearly immortal; AIO liquid coolers give lower temperatures and a cleaner look at the cost of a pump that will eventually wear. Neither is 'better' — it depends on the case, the CPU and how hard you push it, and we'll recommend honestly rather than upsell the shinier option.
The unglamorous cooling work matters more than the hardware: fresh thermal paste every few years, fan curves set so the machine ramps before it throttles rather than after, and dust actually removed rather than blown around. A surprising number of 'failing' gaming PCs just need exactly this.
Power supply headroom — the upgrade people forget
A modern graphics card can double a system's power draw, and a PSU running at its limit doesn't always fail loudly — sometimes it just causes crashes under load that look like anything but the power supply. Before any GPU upgrade we check the wattage maths, the rail quality and the connectors (newer cards want newer connectors), and quote a PSU alongside the card when the headroom isn't there. It's cheaper than diagnosing mystery crashes later.
Upgrade, or start fresh?
There's a point where upgrading stops making sense — usually when the platform (CPU, motherboard, RAM generation) is old enough that the new card would spend half its time waiting. The honest test: if the upgrade you want needs a new motherboard to shine, price a fresh build before committing. We'll do that maths with you and tell you straight which side of the line you're on.
Why does a gaming PC overheat? A short guide
- Dust — the number one cause. Filters, heatsink fins and fan blades clog gradually, so you never notice the day it got bad.
- Dried thermal paste — paste dries and cracks over two to four years; temperatures creep up even in a clean case.
- Airflow, not fans — more fans isn't more cooling if the air has no path. Cable clutter, blocked intakes and negative pressure undo good hardware.
- Ambient heat — a PC in a cupboard or against a radiator fights physics before it fights the game.
- What to check first: temperatures at idle vs under load (free tools show both), whether the fans spin up at all, and when the case was last actually opened and cleaned. If idle temperatures are already high, it's almost never software.

Why does my gaming PC keep crashing?
The usual suspects are overheating, an overwhelmed PSU, faulty RAM or GPU driver issues. Random crashes under load point at heat or power; crashes at idle suggest software or memory. Our free diagnosis pins down the actual cause before you spend anything.
Can you fix GPU artifacting?
Sometimes — artifacting can be overheating or failing video memory. A repaste and clean fixes thermal cases; genuine VRAM failure usually means replacement, and we'll quote both repair and tested replacement card options honestly so you can choose.
My FPS dropped suddenly — what causes that?
Usually thermal throttling from dust or dried paste, a background software issue, or a driver update gone wrong. Occasionally it's a failing drive stuttering the game. We test under real load and tell you exactly which it is — diagnosis free.
Do you repair water-cooled PCs?
Yes — AIO and custom-loop systems, including pump failures, blocked loops and leaks. We can service the existing loop or convert to reliable air cooling if you'd rather never think about it again.
Is upgrading cheaper than buying new?
Very often, yes — a GPU, cooler or SSD upgrade can double real performance for a fraction of a new build. If your platform is too old to upgrade sensibly, we'll say so and quote a custom build instead.
Can you upgrade my graphics card, or will my PC bottleneck it?
Both questions get answered before you spend anything: we check your power supply headroom, case clearance, cooling and CPU against the card you're considering, then fit it, update drivers cleanly and test under real load. If a cheaper card would perform identically in your system, we'll tell you.
