A good printer is only useful if it works with your computer and the way you want to print. Our HP laser printer stock includes individual units with different features. Before buying, tell us the printer reference, your operating system and whether one person or several people will use it.

USB: a direct connection to a computer

USB can be suitable when one computer is the main printing device. Check the printer’s USB connection, driver support and whether the right cable is supplied. A laptop with only USB-C may need a suitable adapter or cable. Connecting the cable does not guarantee support for every operating system or every printer function.

Ethernet: a wired connection to a network

An Ethernet-capable printer can connect to a compatible router or network switch. Computers may then reach it over the same permitted network, including a Wi-Fi-connected laptop where the network allows this. The printer itself does not need built-in Wi-Fi for that arrangement.

Check your available network ports and who manages the network. Guest Wi-Fi, client isolation, firewalls or separate network segments can prevent discovery or printing. For a business, ask your IT administrator to confirm the intended setup.

Wi-Fi: check that the feature is actually fitted

Not every HP laser printer has wireless capability. Check the exact model and configuration rather than assuming it from a family name. Confirm the supported wireless setup against your router. Wi-Fi Direct, ordinary Wi-Fi network printing and mobile printing are different features; support for one does not establish support for all.

Check drivers and mobile printing before purchase

Give us your Windows or macOS version, or explain if you print from a Chromebook, phone or tablet. Check the manufacturer’s current support information for the exact printer and intended platform. AirPrint, Mopria or other driverless methods are useful only where that particular printer and device support them.

For a multifunction model, check scanning support separately from printing. A computer may print successfully without having the software or network support needed to scan.

Buy for your actual setup

Browse current HP printer listings and ask about compatibility before committing. Confirm cables, accessories, setup requirements and any separately quoted setup work. Our buying checklist covers condition and included items too.

Do not expose a printer directly to the public internet. Keep it on an appropriately secured home or business network and follow the manufacturer’s security guidance for the model.

We hold a large stock of HP laser printers. Tell us your budget, printing needs and any advert reference so we can discuss a suitable available unit.

Quick answers

Do all HP laser printers have Wi-Fi?

No. Check the exact model and fitted features. A printer may support USB or Ethernet without built-in wireless connectivity.

Can an Ethernet printer be used from a Wi-Fi laptop?

Often, if the printer and laptop are on a network that allows communication and the operating system has a compatible printing method. Guest-network isolation or business network rules may prevent it.

Will an older HP laser printer work with my laptop?

Check the exact printer model against your operating-system version and available drivers or supported printing protocols. Age or brand alone cannot guarantee compatibility.
