Why certified data destruction matters

When a hard drive, SSD, phone or laptop reaches the end of its useful life, simply deleting files — or even formatting the drive — is not enough. Data recovery tools can retrieve files from formatted drives with relative ease. For personal users this is an uncomfortable thought; for businesses it is a compliance risk and a potential GDPR breach.

At TechRepairHub, we offer certified data destruction services that render data completely and permanently unrecoverable. We use NCSC-approved software wiping methods for functioning drives and physical destruction (shredding or degaussing) for drives that cannot be wiped electronically. Every job is documented and a Certificate of Destruction is issued on completion.

As an Environment Agency licensed facility and ISO 14001 certified organisation, we also ensure that all equipment processed through our data destruction service is recycled responsibly through our WEEE-compliant recycling chain — not sent to landfill, not exported illegally, and not stripped by unregulated operators.

We wipe hard drives and SSDs using NCSC-approved software methods (including Blancco and DoD 5220.22-M standard overwriting). The drive is passed, verified unreadable and a Certificate of Destruction is issued. Suitable for working drives where you want to retain the hardware for reuse or resale.

For drives where software wiping is not possible (failed, clicking, or non-functioning drives) or where physical destruction is required for compliance, we offer industrial shredding. The destroyed media is retained for you to inspect if required, and then recycled through our WEEE-licensed chain.

Factory reset alone does not guarantee data removal on all devices. We carry out certified wipes of smartphones and tablets (iOS and Android) using verified methods that remove data from all partitions, including app data, cached credentials and encrypted containers.

We decommission servers, NAS units and enterprise storage arrays. This includes removal of all drives, certified wiping or destruction of each drive individually, and responsible recycling of the hardware chassis. Full documentation is provided for your compliance and audit trail.

We accept old laptops, PCs, monitors, phones, tablets, printers and other IT equipment for responsible recycling. All equipment is processed through our WEEE-licensed recycling chain. We do not export to developing countries, we do not landfill, and we do not use unregulated recyclers.

For businesses retiring fleets of PCs, laptops or mobile devices, we offer a managed collection and destruction service. We visit your premises, collect the equipment, carry out certified data destruction, and return a complete set of destruction certificates and waste transfer notes for your records.
